Evils of Corruption

When we hear the word ‘Corruption’ what mostly comes to our mind is the financial corruption of bureaucrats or politicians which undoubtedly exists in places, but we forget about ourselves when talking about corruption because our minds can also be corrupt which lead us to negativity, pessimism, hatred, bullying others, backbiting and sometimes even criminal thoughts.

If you will look up the meaning of corruption in  the dictionary it is written "dishonest or illegal behavior especially by powerful people (such as government officials or police officers)" it includes all the activities in which a government official uses his power or authority to do anything illegal or that the person uses governmental funds for his/her own personal benefits whether it is one cent or a million dollars.

Being corrupt means that we are living in a way that we know that something is wrong and it is harming not only us but also everyone around us but still we are reluctant to do anything about it.

Corruption in any form has many repercussions for example; Financial corruption leads to the economic collapse of a country and the rich get richer and the poor get poorer which eventually leads to an increase in crime rates and other social issues. Corruption of mind can lead to the obliteration of the person's mental peace and eventually that person is going to suffer from long-term diseases such as depression, anxiety, etc.

Although financial corruption exists in almost every country in the world the countries which suffer the most are the third world countries which are still in the stage of development. Corruption is also the main cause of the retarded growth of many developing countries because the funds which have to be invested for education, healthcare, developmental projects, necessities go into the pockets of the corrupt politicians and bureaucrats.

Excessive corruption can collapse any nation within a blink of an eye because fairness, equality, and justice are the foundation of a strong nation. Corruption is also responsible for the injustice present in society as Martin Luther King jr. once said "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere" just like corruption anywhere is the threat to fairness everywhere.

If we talk about the prevention of corruption what we have to do is that we have to choose the right politician whose interest is to serve the people, not to loot the people. We do not have to elect any politician who was insincere and involved in corruption no matter what are the circumstances, because only a clean person can prevent corruption. That signifies that we always have to just say "NO TO CORRUPTION".

At last what we can do at our individual level is that we make our minds free of corruption which means that we keep our minds free from any kind of negativity, hatred, jealousy, envy, anger, cynicism, etc. So that we do not have to waste our brainpower on useless matters and thinking about others' life and going into depression. Instead of that, we use our brain positively towards achieving our goal and making our life better and stress-free and living a happy life.
